East Bengal to have new soccer coach shortly

Kolkata: East Bengal will have a new coach
for the coming soccer season, club president Pranab Dasgupta
said here on Tuesday.

Dasgupta said the change is necessitated following AFC
direction that I-league playing teams must have a coach with
"A" license.

The team under Phillip de Rider had won the Federation
Cup last season and his overall performance was not bad. But
Rider is not an `A` licensed coach, Dasgupta said.

"Hopefully the club would be able to find a coach with
the required qualifications shortly," he added.

Secretary Kalyan Mazumdar said the club has been
discussing about quite a few coaches, including some foreign

"Nothing has been finalised yet," he said.
