EPL 2015-16: Anthony Martial, Michael Carrick injuries frustrate Manchester United

New Delhi: Anthony Martial left Wembley on crutches after France’s 0-2 defeat to England on Tuesday. This serves as a big blow to Louis van Gaal's side who face Watford in the weekend's Premier League encounter.

Martial was seen with a strapping on the foot and ankle as he caught the team bus after the match.

The true severity of the injury is yet to be confirmed and United will hope it isn't a major one given the youngster's impact for the club so far this term.

Martial has been in good form off late after providing Olivier Giroud with an assist in France's 2-0 win against Germany. On Tuesday the Frenchman went close to scoring for Les Bleus on two separate occasions, forcing good saves out of Joe Hart and his subsequent replacement Jack Butland.

France manager had stated after the match that he thinks it is a knock on his right foot.

Martial's impact on the left flank and as a striker has been a onus for LVG. His injury will pave way for Memphis Depay and Ashley Young to feature against Watford and the duo will be eager to stake their claim in the starting XI with an impressive show.

United midfielder Michael Carrick who has played an important role in the centre of the pitch is also injured. The England international was stretchered off during England’s 2-0 defeat to Spain last Friday, having suffered an apparent ankle injury.

Van Gaal has been careful with Carrick this season rotating the midfield well with Bastian Schweinsteiger. Morgan Schneirderlin and Ander Herrera. The injury to the 34-year-old Carrick leaves Gaal plenty to ponder about as United are involved in matches in both Premier League and Champions League.
