New Delhi: Premier League giants Manchester United on Friday got in touch once again with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho after the club's shock defeat against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League.
According a report in the Mirror, United's vice-chairman Ed Woodward contacted the Portuguese manager's agent Jorge Mendes in the morning, asking whether the 'Special One' would be willing to takeover from Louis van Gaal before the end of the ongoing season.
Earlier, the club's bosses were of the view that Mourinho should replace the Dutchman after the 2015-16 season. However, recent defeats have forced the club to re-think on its succession plans.
Van Gaal is clearly under pressure and should the team crash out of the FA Cup, Europa League and fail to secure a top four finish in the Premier League, his position will be untenable.
Though several key players are out injured, the current performance of the 20-time champions is not acceptable to the club's board.
