Premier League: Chelsea appoint Guus Hiddink until end of season

New Delhi: Former Netherlands boss Guus Hiddink has been appointed interim Chelsea manager until the end of the season. The 69-year-old replaces Jose Mourinho as the Chelsea manager till the end of the season.

Hiddink stated on Chelsea's official website that, 'I am excited to return to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world but is not where it should be at the moment. However, I am sure we can all turn this season around.

The former PSV manager had also managed the Blues on a temporary basis for the final three months of the 2008-09 campaign. Hiddink stated that he is looking to work with the players and staff and is looking to renew the relationship with the fans.

"I am looking forward to working with the players and staff at this great club and especially renewing my wonderful relationship with the Chelsea fans."

Jose Mourinho was sacked on Thursday with the defending champions staying 16th in the Premier League table. Hiddink watched Saturday's Premier League tie of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge against Sunderland from the stand.

He was seen sitting next to owner Roman Abramovich and former Blues striker Didier Drogba.
