Lambert refuses to rule out Aston Villa bid for Carroll
London: Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert says he would consider making a bid for Liverpool striker Andy Carroll under the right circumstances.

Carroll is not thought to fit into the plans of new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, and has been linked with a potential loan move away from Anfield to the likes of AC Milan and West Ham.

And Lambert, who has already signed Brett Holman, Karim El Ahmadi and Matthew Lowton this summer, spoke of the possibility of adding Carroll to the list of new additions following a pre-season friendly against Burton Albion.

"[Carroll is a] top player, there`s no doubt he`s a top player, and it wouldn`t be one I would dismiss if it was there," he said.

However, when asked if he was actively trying to sign the player, Lambert replied: "No. I obviously heard the teams that were linked with him, but that doesn`t surprise me, the type of player he is."

The new boss at Villa Park also revealed he is is still hoping to add more players to his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

"I`ve always said that the group need a hand. They need players to come in and give them a hand and we`re trying to get them in," he added.
