Fergie confident Ferdinand will sign new Man U extension deal

London: Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Rio Ferdinand will sign a one year extension contract with Manchester United.

Ferdinand is out of contract at the end of this season and has yet to agree a one-year extension, despite having discussed his Old Trafford future with Ferguson.

But Ferguson said he believes Ferdinand, 34, will put pen to paper on a new deal and play on next season.

The Man U boss has also told striker Javier Hernandez that he has a big future at Manchester United and will not consider selling him.

Hernandez has made just two Premier League starts since New Year`s Day.

He is said to be considering his future, with Real Madrid and Juventus monitoring his situation.
