Man Utd players want Ferguson to lift Premier League trophy

London: Manchester United players reportedly want their retirement-bound boss Sir Alex Ferguson to be the person to be presented with the Premier League trophy on Sunday, instead of captain Nemanja Vidic .
Although traditionally, the champions` skipper gets to lift the trophy following the final home game of the season, however, the players have planned for Ferguson to hold the trophy aloft after each member of his squad has been presented with their medals, ahead of Swansea`s visit to Old Trafford, the Mirror reports. Sources said that the United players feel that it would be a fitting way to end the Scot`s 27-year reign if he literally picks up his last piece of silverware, adding that both United and Swansea players are expected to form a guard of honour for Ferguson as he leads United at home for the last time. The report further said that Ferguson will be the centre of attention and will also address fans from the pitch at the final whistle, adding that with United fans desperate to be there for Ferguson`s swan-song, tickets are being sold up to 2,000 pounds. Meanwhile Dutch striker Robin van Persie has paid a glowing tribute to Ferguson who had lured him to Old Trafford for 24 million pounds last summer from Arsenal, and helped him collect his first Premier League winners` medal. Van Persie, United`s top scorer this season with 29 goals, said that he is happy that he had the opportunity and the honour to work with Ferguson, adding that the Scot is a great manager and an even greater person.
