New Delhi: Jack Rodwell could be on his way out of Manchester City if Sunderland reach an agreement with the Premier League champions this week.
Reports suggest that the England international is on Wearside for a medical along with final round of talks. The transfer fee is believed to be in the region of £10m.
The former Everton midfielder left Goodison Park to join cash-rich City for £12m in 2012. However, plagued by injuries the 23-year-old could manage just 25 appearances for the newly crowned Premier League champions without much impact.
The highly-rated Rodwell could not find a regular place in the starting line-up due to stiff competition in the club`s midfield ranks with players like Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri, David Silva, Fernandinho, Javi Garcia, James Milner and Jesus Navas.
Post the departure of Gareth Barry to Everton, Rodwell could be the second English player to leave the City. This is crucial especially since they got a rap on their knuckles from UEFA earlier this year for flouting the Financial Fair Play regulations.
Hence it is imperative for the Manchester club to have a minimum of 5 home-grown players in their squad of 21 members for the Champions League for the 2014-15 season. The arrival of Frank Lampard on a six-month loan spell could pave the way for Jack Rodwell`s exit.
