Stat attack: Man Utd go into a Manchester derby above Man City in the league table for the first time since April 2013.

United have lost the last four derbies against City.

This is the 152nd league derby.

Team news (Line-ups):

The teams have arrived at Old Trafford.

Preview: Premier League's big carnival will come into stage when Manchester will witness its red and blue brigades fighting for glory to paint the town according to their own colours. One of the biggest encounters in European football will determine a say in the top-four finish in the table and both sides will look to keep the onus in their favour.

Manchester United are the in-form team winning their last five EPL matches including sounding wins over Spurs and Liverpool. Manchester City meanwhile, have lost three of their last five games and all killings have been away from home. Going by form United hold an upper edge voiced alike by the fans and pundits. But a derby game is a derby and form doesn't count much here. It is the emotions and nerves that matter on the day given the greatness of the occasion.

United's midfield and attacking options will please Louis van Gaal who most likely will go for an unchanged team that played against Aston Villa last weekend. Juan Mata, Ander Herrera will hold the key is binding the play together and making clever run-ins and assists. Wayne Rooney will relish his role upfront and will want to score again.

The defence are looking better with match after match and the likes of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo need to thwart advances of City's clever players further up the pitch. In midfield they have Michael Carrick who will play a major role in how the game is dictated.

For City, Sergio Aguero would want to break his drought in scoring and get on the sheet. They are likely to play with a 4-4-2 formation and will look to make inroads with short and clever passes. Yaya Toure and Fernando will be crucial in containing City's play in midfield. The last time the sides met, City prevailed 1-0 after United were reduced to 10 men just after 39 minutes.

Van Gaal will hope for a check in emotions and taking the attack into the opposition. For Pellegrini a win will be a big boost given the criticism he and his side have recieved from all corners.
