New Delhi: Ahead of the high-profile Manchester City-Arsenal English Premier League (EPL) clash this weekend, Manuel Pellegrini has hailed Alexis Sanchez as the best player in England.
“Every game I see him making a great effort, showing great commitment, ambition and the maturity needed to keep improving year after year... I’m happy for him because at this time he is the best player in English football,” Manchester City manager was quoted by AS.
After arriving from Barcelona in London last summer in a £32 million move, Sanchez has scored 18 goals so far in all competitions for Gunners. In the EPL, his tally of 12 is three behind leading scorer Diego Costa of Chelsea after the end of round 21.
Pellegrini also believes that his fellow Chilean will continue to improve at the scoring front.
“I always thought (he was going to be world class). The only thing you could criticise him for before was that he didn’t score enough goals. He wasn’t a scorer. But he has improved this a lot in the last two campaigns,” admits Pellegrini.
Manchester City will host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on January 18. After losing grounds in the title defence, Citizens will hope to resurrect their 2014-15 campaign against an Alexis-lead side.
Arsenal are also in recovery mode after falling off the title race early in the season. And they are now in fifth place with 36 points, 11 lesser than second place City's tally.
