New Delhi: Newcastle United's Siem de Jong suffered a thigh injury and may be ruled out for several months.
The Dutchman joined the Magpies in July from Ajax. He picked up this injury to his right thigh during a training session. The medical team at the club will further assess the extent of injury next week.
Newcastle are yet to register their first league game this season and the 25-year-old has only made three appearences for the club.
With this injury, Alan Pardew has limited options in attack as creative midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa left the club to join Hull City in the recently concluded transfer window.
Siem de Jong has been employed by Pardew behind Emmanuel Riviere. Now, the manager will untested squad players like Ayoze Perez and Facundo Ferreyra and Remy Cabella.
Pardew could turn to largely untried new recruits Ayoze Perez and Facundo Ferreyra, as well as midfielder Remy Cabella to replace De Jong.
The Dutch international will consider himself unlucky especially since he had to miss large part of the Ajax campaign last season with injury as well.
