London: Stoke City defender Robert Huth has been charged with aggravated misconduct over posts he made on social media, the Football Association announced on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old German centre-back appeared to respond to a Twitter account that posts explicit images of people and asks users to guess their gender.

"It is alleged the comments were indecent and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute, contrary to FA rule E3(1)," the FA said in a statement.

"It is further alleged that this breach of Rule E3(1) is an `aggravated breach` as defined in rule E3(2), as it included a reference to gender and/or gender reassignment."

Huth has until 1800 GMT on January 21 to respond to the charge.

He apologised for his behaviour earlier this month after interacting with a Twitter account that posts cropped pictures of people in sexualised poses and asks users to guess if they have male or female genitalia.

After deleting the tweets in question, Huth wrote on Twitter: "Clearly no offence was meant or directed to anyone, but apologies if I`ve offended anyone."
