New Delhi: Victor Valdes has finally joined Manchester United on a 18-month loan deal for free. The Spanish goalkeeper said that it's an honour for him to join the club. He was linked with the club for some time.

On Thursday, the United website quoted Valdes, "It is a real honour to sign for Manchester United. I would like to thank Louis van Gaal and the club for allowing me to do my rehabilitation and to train with the team at the Aon Training Complex.”

The 32-year-old also praised United manager, Louis van Gaal.

“From my short time here I can already see this is a very special club. I worked with Louis van Gaal during my time at FC Barcelona and to have the opportunity to work with him here at Manchester United is a dream come true," he said.

The 18-month contract also carried an option to extend for a further year.

Valdes won 21 major titles in Spain and was part of the all-conquering Barcelona team under Pep Guardiola. He also won 20 international caps for his national team.

Soon after the confirmation, the 2010 World Cup winner declared that his compatriot and United No.1 David de Gea is the world's best goalkeeper. The Spaniards have been training together at the club's since October last year.

Valdes, who refused a new contract at Barcelona, left the Catalans last summer after playing for 12 years and making more than 500 appearances for the club. He is the second high-profile player on loan at United. Colombian star, Radamel Falcao is also on a season-long loan from French outfit Monaco.
