Cuttack: Shillong Lajong FC and Salgaoncar, Goa drew 2-2 to share the points in a keenly fought Group D match of the 32nd Federation Cup quarter-final match at the Barabati stadium here on Friday.
Having lost to fancied Mohan Bagan in their previous clash on Wednesday, a desperate Shillong FC took early lead in the match to stay in the competition going to the break 1-0 but failed to capitalise on it after the interval.
Aided by a gem of supply from winger, B L Lalthemphara neatly scored a header to romp home the early goal at the 13th minute igniting jubiliation in the stadium.
Salgoancar launched counter attack to restore parity in the match dominating the opposition citadel repeatedly but the Lajong stoppers frustrated opposition strikers throughout the first half.
Salgaonkar captain Luciano Sobraosa penetrated Shillong defence at the 63rd minute and scored the equalizer with a powerful hit.
Salgaoncar was eager to consolidate its position by registering a second consecutive win while Shillong badly needed a win.
With the clock getting nearer to the hooter, Shillong stunned Salgaoncar at the 86th minute with a goal by Boithang Hoakip taking 2-1 lead.
However, Shillong`s joy was shortlived as a spirited Salgaoncar came from behind to level the score two minutes later.
With Friday`s draw, Salgaoncar and Shillong shared the
points getting one point each from the match.
Salgaoncar got four points from two outings having beaten Mumbai FC 2-0 on Wednesday while Shillong has got only one point from as many matches. Shillong Lajong had lost to Mohan Bagan 0-1 in their first match of the tourney on Wednesday.
