Fergie eyeing 21st league title with 50 m pounds transfer spree

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly set to clinch a 21st league title with a bumper summer spending spree costing more than 50 million pounds.

London: United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly set to clinch a 21st league title with a bumper summer spending spree costing more than 50 million pounds.
Despite leading United to a 13th Premier League crown, Ferguson plans to invest heavily in his squad to ensure that they stay ahead of their domestic rivals and push for Champions League glory. The targets of Ferguson, who is planning a considerable shake-up of his current squad to strengthen in key areas to keep United ahead of the chasing pack, include Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski and Everton left-back Leighton Baines. The newcomers will fill the places left vacant by Nani, Anderson, Paul Scholes (retiring this summer) and probably Wayne Rooney, who was hauled off by Ferguson with 20 minutes left of United’s 3-0 title-clinching win over Aston Villa on Monday, having played an influential role from deep in midfield. Although, the Scot has publicly insisted that Rooney will not be leaving United this summer, the striker continues to be linked with a 25 million-pound switch to Paris Saint-Germain, in which case Ferguson may replace him with either Falcao or Lewandowski. The veteran centre-back Rio Ferdinand will be offered a one-year contract extension, while the vacant place left by the expected retirement of Scholes may be filled by Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus, Kevin Strootman of PSV Eindhoven and Celtic’s Victor Wanyama, if Ferguson is successful in bringing them.
