FIFA calls for `special approach` to fight against doping in football

Melbourne: Football governing body FIFA has said that it wants an over haul in the approach 8 to the fight against doping in sport, as it held its own conference at its head quarters in Zurich just two weeks after WADA`s conference in Johannesburg.

According to The Age, their conclusion was that the approach to anti-doping should be based on risk within individual sports rather than conformity across all sports.
FIFA`s chief medical officer Jiri Dvorak, who claimed there was a huge difference between team sports and individual sports when it comes to doping said that the management of risks should be based on the evaluation of risks.

That idea is backed up by WADA`s statistics, the report said.
Of 274,000 dope tests in 2012, 1.2 per cent gave abnormal results with 0.42 per cent testing positive for anabolic steroids, the report added.
