Former footballer Roshan Vats passes away

New Delhi: Former Durand Cupper Roshan Vats, who had performed against prominent British football teams Cameroon and Haward XI way back in 1938, has passed away following a prolonged illness, here.

Vats, 95, breathed his last at a city hospital yesterday and is survived by two daughters.

He had started career as a right-winger in 1930 and was a prominent member of Delhi`s Youngmen Sports Club till 1942. Vats had showed excellent football against Cameroon and Haward XI in 1938, a Delhi Soccer Association release said on Sunday.

Vats was also a part of the Youngmen SC squad, which had reached semifinal of the Durand Cup played at Shimla in the forties.

The DSA had honoured him last year.
