London: Following his detoxing in hospital, Former England international Paul Gascoigne, popularly known as Gazza, has insisted that he knew instantly that he had to get inside the ambulance on seeing it as it was the only way he could stop drinking.
Gazza had to be helped by a police officer to an ambulance as he was staggering and looking frail and disheveled after boozing on lager and gin in his flat.
However, after his detoxing in the hospital Gazza has insisted that he is not looking for sympathy from people and said that he knows that he can overcome this, The Mirror reported.
Gazza said that he is an alcoholic so he is taking one day at a time, but added that he will get there. He said that he is determined to recover.
The former Tottenham Hotspur, Queens Park Rangers and Lazio star said that he does not want sympathy, and added that he just wants the space to live his life.
He said that the last few days have been hard and added that when he saw the ambulance, he knew instantly that he had to get inside. Gazza said that in the past he has had binges that have lasted days, weeks, months.
This time, he said that he had only been drinking for a few hours but he knew if he went to hospital he would be OK and that he would come through the other side.
