Hanoi (Vietnam): Vietnam`s German football coach Falko Goetz has officially ended his contract with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) following the poor performance of the under-23 team at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).
During a press conference here Friday, Goetz said it was a hard decision, but he had to take responsibility as the coach. Pham Ngoc Vien, VFF vice chairman, highly appreciated Goetz`s sharing and pledged to do more to improve the country`s football, Xinhua reported. Earlier last month, VFF general secretary Tran Quoc Tuan officially left office after submitting a letter of resignation, saying that he was partially responsible for the loss of the national under-23 team. Goetz, a 49-year-old former Bayer Leverkusen player, became the eighth foreign coach of Vietnam since 1995 after the departure of Portuguese Henrique Calisto. IANS
