GFA to host three national events

Panaji: The Executive Committee of Goa Football Association (GFA) has decided to host three national events in the coastal state.

Addressing a press conference, the GFA president, Shrinivas Dempo said that they will organize the West Zone qualifying round and the final round of the Coca-Cola MIHT for sub junior football tournament in Goa in February/March, 2012.

The dates of the tournament will be finalised in consultation with the All India Football Federation. It was also decided in the meet yesterday to organize the qualifying round of the U-20 tournament for Junior teams of the I-League in Goa.

The Women Committee which also met has decided to have an Inter School tournanment for girls below the age of 14 and Intercollegiate tournament for women in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.

The inter school tournament will be played between January 27 and February 11. While the Intercollegiate tourney will be held from 15-28 February. The Committee also considered a draft plan and a time table to revise the GFA Youth Development programme and the GFA Youth Competitions.

A eight member working group has been constituted for this purpose who will work in close coordination with John Broadmen, FA Australia and the Vision Asian Department of AFC.

The Committee members are: Lavinio Rebelo, Brahmanand Shankwalker, Armando Colaco, Bruno Coutinho, Lector Mascarenhas, Babli Mandrenkar, Lawrence Gomes and Mathew D`Costa.

The GFA has requested the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Sports Authority of Goa to nominate representatives to be part of this working group.

A show cause notice has been sent to all four referees who failed to turn up for the U-16 league match between Salgaocar SC and Dempo SC and the match which was played without an active referee will be replayed since the match was not officiated by an active referee.

Gajanan Kambli and Remmie Colaco have been appointed coaches of the Goa U-13 team that will participate in U-13 festival at Kalyani, West Begal.

The Committee was informed that player Santan Rodrigues of St. Savio Sports Club, Calangute has been placed under immediate suspension for assaulting the referee during the 2nd Division (Bardez Zone).

The case is referred to the Disciplinary Committee. Show cause notices have also been issued to officials of St. Savio Sports Club for their unsporting behaviour.

Dempo, who has a tie up with an Academy in Denmark will be sending two of their U-16 players to Denmark for a training for a period of six months. The names of the players will be announced later after coach Armando Colaco approves it.
