Goa humiliate Gujarat, MP defeats Maharashtra
Margao: Goa scored an astonishing 25 goals, including four hat-tricks, against Gujarat to remain unbeaten in the ongoing 34th sub-junior nationals for Coca Cola MIHT football tournament on Sunday.
While Gulbert Fernandes completed a double hat-trick scoring as many as eight goals, Jesmon Soares scored four goals, Aldrige Coelho hammered in five goals and Paresh Vaiguinkar slammed in three goals.
The other goal scorers for Goa were Jason Lucans (two), Shayam Manni, Arif Pathan and Akiraj Martins.
With this win, the hosts have so far collected nine points winning all their three matches, having earlier defeated Rajathan 12-0 and Madhya Pradesh 1-0.
Goa is scheduled to play their next match against Maharashtra and a win in this match will help them to be the leaders of this West Zone group encounters in this sub-junior.
In another match, Maharashtra were shocked by Madhya Pradesh by 1-4.
Though Maharashtra were leading by a goal, Madhya Pradesh came from behind to defeat Maharasthra 4-1 thus leaving the chances open for themselves to qualify for the final draw, which too will be played in Goa.
A win for Maharashtra against Goa in the match scheduled on February 21 would mean they would keep their hopes alive to remain in contention for the main draw.
However, if Goa beats Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh would stand second and qualify for the main draw.
