Greece coach Fernando Santos is expected to announce that he will step down from his post after the World Cup finals later this year, Greek media reported late Wednesday.
Reports said that the Greek football federation will most likely announce Santos` departure at a press conference scheduled for Thursday or when the Portuguese coach announces his squad for next week`s friendly with South Korea on Friday.
Santos, 59, has expressed interest in coaching a club team in the near future, according to the reports.
He has coached Greece since 2010 taking over from successful German coach Otto Rehhagel who led the team to a surprising Euro 2004 title.
Santos has so far recorded 24 victories, 13 draws and only four losses at the helm of the Greek side.
He guided Greece to Euro 2012 by finishing first in their group with an unbeaten run of 16 matches leading them to the quarter-finals, and the team to a berth in the World Cup this June in Brazil after a play-off win over Romania following a second place finish in their group.
Santos` contract expires after the World Cup.
On the club front Santos coached Porto to one Portuguese league title, two Cups and two Super Cups, while he guided AEK Athens to a Greek Cup.
