Hodgson backs Rooney to be England’s future captain
London: England manager Roy Hodgson has said striker Wayne Rooney is being considered for the vice-captain role, and has the potential of being the future captain of the national team.
Hodgson is yet to name a vice-captain behind Steven Gerrard for Euro 2012.
Rooney is one of the favourites to become vice-captain of the England team, and expected to wear the armband once Gerrard decides to retire.
Even former coach Fabio Capello had earlier tipped Rooney to become the England captain.
“Vice-captain is something we’re considering and Wayne would come into the reckoning,” The Sun quoted Hodgson, as saying.
“We’re having to take it on a game-by-game basis but Wayne would be considered,” he added.
