New Delhi: Shillong Lajong were clearly the big winners on Friday in I-League 2015-16's Round 14 double-header.
Lajong brushed aside Aizawl FC's challenge 3-1 to come up tops in the Northeast derby after Salgaocar and DSK Shivajians played out a 1-1 draw in Vasco earlier.
Baljit Sahni (25th minute) and Darryl Duffy (30th minute) had struck one goal each for their team in the first half but Shivajians were unfortunate that Perrick could not convert a penalty in the second half.
The result propelled DSK Shivajians to the sixth spot in the I-League table with 13 points, while Salgaocar FC, also on 13 points, leaped to the fifth spot, ahead on head-to-head.
DSK Shivajians will now welcome Bengaluru FC to Pune for their next I-League encounter on 6th April 2016.
Hosts Shillong Lajong FC overturned an early goal to score three in the first half itself at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Forward Fabio Penas scored a brace (on 17 and 18 minutes) and midfielder Samuel Lalmuanpuia scored the third in the 37th.
Lajong improved to 17 points from 13 matches but remained in the fourth spot in the standings. Aizawl stayed put in the eighth place with 12 from 14 games.
