Margao: Robin Singh's second half goal helped Bengaluru FC score a 1-0 win over 10-man Salgaocar to move at the top of the table in the Hero I-League football tournament here on Saturday.
The win takes Bengaluru FC to the top with 17 points from 10 matches, two points ahead of Mohun Bagan who still have to play three more matches in the first leg.
Salgaocar, missing five of their key players due to injury and a red card, looked a depleted side. They adopted a cautious approach in the first half as they played 4-5-1 formation and did well to hold their rivals to 0-0 in the first half.
Salgaocar had the first chance to take the lead when Douhou Pierre initiated a move from the middle and relayed the ball to Sanju Pradhan who send a low cross into the box but keeper Ralte did well to save it.
Salgaocar looked more enterprising at the start of the second half and had couple of chances to take the lead. But Bikas Jairu and Pierre failed to cash on the chances.
Bengaluru FC slowly took control over the proceedings and pressed hard in search of the goal and their effort bore fruit as they finally found the net in the 78th minute, when Rino Anto sent a curling cross for Robin Singh who headed the ball into the net.
