Shillong: Sporting Club De Goa will have to put in their best foot forward to secure a point here when they meet a focused Royal Wahingdoh FC in the Hero I-League football tournament.
The hosts Royals are keen on stealing the show against the Goans who are yet to register a win this season. The Santosh Kashyap-led Royal Wahingdoh FC has shown consistency and best use of team effort to register three wins, a draw and a loss beginning with a win at home against long time rivals Shillong Lajong FC.
Two impressive away victories over in-form Salgaocar and new-boys Bharat FC has made their manager, Kashyap, believe they are a team to reckon with. While they went down fighting against defending champions Bengaluru FC at home, they rallied back to secure a point in the last home match against Dempo SC. As there are lots at stake for both teams, Sunday's match at the J N Stadium here will be exciting at least for the Shillong crowd who have poured in consistently between 7000-12000.
A confident Kashyap said, We have been playing well and also getting the desired results. We are confident ahead of tomorrow's game. Denying to write-off 10th position Sporting, he said every team is competent at the top flight football league and every match is a new challenge.
Sporting coach Mateus Costa, meanwhile, admitted to the club's poor show till date but said his main focus would be to convert the openings. Having scored only once in four matches they have played so far, Costa also said that his boys are looking forward to the contest against the hosts in their den.
While star striker and fans' favourite of the Club, Seityasen Singh and new signing Godwin Franco will feature in the Royals' squad, the host will miss out on the services of Jackichand Singh, Nadong Bhutia, Samananda Singh and Govin Singh all of whom are nursing injuries.
