I want to give my best and create an impact at Bagan: Katsumi Yusa

Kolkata: Katsumi Yusa, following his move from ONGC to Mohun Bagan, has asked to be deployed in an attacking midfielder’s role but added that it is coach Karim Bencherifa’s call to decide.

"Though I prefer to operate from behind the striker, I would leave it on Coach to decide in which position he would use me. Whichever position he will ask me to play, whether it is the flanks or in the center, I will give my best and try to create an impact on the field,” Yusa was quoted saying by Bagan’s official website.

The Japanese was on the radar of several top clubs, including Bagan’s arch rivals East Bengal, but mentioned that it was his decision to join the Mariners.

“I have had numerous offers from other clubs, including East Bengal. But I chose Bagan because I wanted to play here. I know there will be pressure on me. But being a professional footballer, I am ready to perform under pressure.”

Odafa Okolie, though a prolific striker, isn’t the most congenial players to work with. However Yusa chose to play it safe by praising the Nigerian and hoping that they strike a good partnership.

“Odafe is a star. He is a striker par excellence. He is a goal machine. If he is on song, he can win you matches easily. So it will be important that I develop an understanding with him… I am looking forward to playing with him. Actually, I have a very tough job to perform and I am quite tense. He is scoring … So I will have to perform equally well to complement him.

“I want to help him score more goals than ever. I will always give my 100 per cent on the field and see to it that Odafe doesn’t fail because of me... If our partnership works, it will be beneficial to the team,” He told The Telegraph.
