I would love to captain England: Wayne Rooney Zeenews Sports Bureau

London: Wayne Rooney has expressed his desire to lead England but at the same time has backed Steven Gerrard for the job.

“For everyone asking i would love to be england captain. But thats upto new manager to decide. Gerrard is perfect choice for me.” Rooney posted on his twitter account.


The United striker has already backed Harry Redknapp’s candidacy for the England coach’s job.

“Gutted capello has quit. Good guy and top coach. Got to be english to replace him. Harry redknapp for me.” he had earlier posted on the micro blogging site.


Wayne Rooney twice netted in Manchester United’s home win against Liverpool on Saturday that was overshadowed by Evra-Suarez spat.
