ISL: Pune City vs NorthEast United - Preview

New Delhi: Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune will host Match 20 of the inaugural edition of the Indian Super League as FC Pune City welcome NorthEast United FC.

Pune are currently at the bottom of the ISL table with 4 points from their first 4 games; though they have a game in hand. The highlanders are sat pretty at third position on the table after picking up 8 points off their 5 games.

The Maharashtra-based team will be disappointed with their effort in the last game against the Kerala Blasters as they squandered a one-goal advantage by conceding an equalizer in the closing moments of the match.

John Abraham's NEUFC has been one of the most disciplined teams in the league so far. Along with Kolkata, they have conceded only 3 goals, which is the least in the ISL.

Despite being in last place, a win for Pune could propel them over Goa and Kerala. The biggest positive for them would be the goal-scoring form of their marquee player David Trezeguet. Another big factor in favour of Pune would be the home support.

So far, Koke and Miguel Garcia have run the show for NorthEast United. They will be expected to do more of the same with the Indian players rallying around them. Winner of the emerging player ward against Delhi in the last match, Rehenesh TP has been one major reason for NEUFC's strong defensive record.

There are no major injury worries for both teams and the managers will have the luxury of picking their first eleven from fully fit squads.

The highlanders have massive home support in Guwahati. With no big names in their team, NEUFC have come to be the underdogs everybody wants to root for. Hence Ricki Herbert feels fans would cheer his team on even for an away game, like this one in Pune.

Right from the opening game, Bollywood celebrities have come out to support their favourite teams in the ISL. Today is expected to be no different. John Abraham, as always will be present to cheer his boys on, while actor and brand ambassador of the Pune franchise Arjun Kapoor will be leading home support.
