ISL will get better and better every year: Alessandro Del Piero

New Delhi: Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero on Thursday hailed the Indian Super League (ISL) and predicted it to get better and better every year.

Talking to NDTV, the former Delhi Dynamos' marquee player-manager said that ISL has "incredible talent in football."

"ISL will get better and better year-by-year. There is incredible talent in football," he was quoted as saying.

Del Piero was arguably the biggest draw of the newly-incepted ISL in its opening season last year. Coming with an unrivalled pedigree, the Italian helped his bit in promoting Indian football, despite playing a fledging role in the field.

He did score a goal for the Delhi-based franchise but his struggle was evident from the fact that an indifferent weather in India, which is mainly humid, failed to inspire the World Cup winning Italian.

However, the former Juventus player praised his Delhi team-mates and also believed that the first season was indeed a success for the league.

"Had excellent teammates during Indian Super League last year. ISL went very good," the 40-year-old said.

Dynamos finished the 2014 season at fifth position, winning five matches off 14, in the eight-team competition, which was won by Atletico de Kolkata after defeating Kerala Blasters in the final.

In the second season, Dynamos have roped in Brazilian icon Roberto Carlos to replace Del Piero as their marquee manager-player.
