New Delhi: English giants Manchester United on Tuesday confirmed the signing of French midfielder Paul Pogba from Italian club Juventus on a five-year contract.

A statement released by the Old Trafford outfit said that the contract has "the option to extend for a further year."

The club's official Twitter handle also posted a photo of Pogba in the club jersey.

Paul, 23, has been with Juventus for four seasons, making 124 appearances and scoring 28 goals. He joined the Bianconeri from United in 2012.

The midfielder has been capped by France on 38 occasions, scoring 6 goals and was a member of the recent squad that reached the final of Euro 2016.

It was earlier reported that the former United playmaker will return to the club for a world-record £89m fee. He left United for £1.5m in 2012.

His fee surpasses Wales forward Gareth Bale's £85m move to Real Madrid in 2013 as the biggest transfer deal in history.
