Ludhiana: East Bengal was forced to share the points after JCT came from behind to hold the Kolkata outfit to a 1-1 draw in their I-League match played at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Sunday.
After a barren first half, Abel Hammond’s goal in the 66th minute helped East Bengal go ahead, but only after eight minutes JCT’s Penn Ikechukw Orji scored a field goal to level the score. In the second half of the match, most of the time East Bengal dominated the game and in the 66th minute Hammond scored a brilliant goal by capitalising on a pass off Mehtab Hussain to give his team the lead. However, JCT’s Orji scored a field goal to make it 1-1. In the dying minutes, East Bengal got two opportunities to score but an alert Karmjit Singh under the bar foiled their efforts. After this draw JCT have 32 points from 25 matches while East Bengal have 29 points from 23 matches. Hammond was declared man of the match. It was the last match of JCT at their home ground in this session. PTI
