Luka Modric set for three-week absence, say Croats

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric could be sidelined for three weeks after suffering a suspected groin strain while playing for Croatia in a 1-1 draw with Italy, national team bosses said.

Modric hobbled off just before the half-hour mark of the Group H qualifier at a packed San Siro on Sunday and was replaced by Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

A team spokesman said Modric "would be out for three weeks" with the injury.

If confirmed, Modric would miss Real Madrid`s away trip to Champions League group opponents FC Basel on November 26.
