London: Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said his team was the deserving Premier League champions after they toppled local rivals Manchester United as the new domestic title holders on a dramatic last day of the season, but only on goal difference.
“We were the best team last season because we played the best football, we scored the most goals and we conceded the fewest goals. We beat United twice and we dominated those two games against them,” The Daily Mirror quoted Mancini, as saying.
“We are very proud of this because to beat United is a fantastic thing, because they are a great team. They used to win the league every year, so for us to beat them and win it means that we did very well,” he added.
“Perhaps we were lucky in the last few minutes against QPR. In fact, a lot of times last season we scored late goals in the last two or three minutes. But that’s because we wanted the title so much,” he said.
