New Delhi: Indian football coach Savio Medeira on Saturday dispelled doubts over Dempo players walking out in the middle of the national team’s campaign in the ongoing SAFF Championship here.
Dempo had threatened to boycott their eighth round I-League encounter against Churchill Brothers as seven of their players are currently on national duty.
Medeira`s assurance came after the All India Football Federation (AIFF) refused to give in to Dempo`s demand for releasing its players.
"The players are with us in the camp and they are not going anywhere," Medeira said when asked if the players would be staying back with team.
AIFF general secretary Kushal Das too said that Dempo`s demand doesn`t hold any ground and that there was no question of allowing players to tavel to Goa for the match.
Dempo and AIFF are heading towards a collision course after the Goan club had asked their players to return from the SAFF Championship duty for tomorrow`s derby against Churchill Brothers.
Their contention was that either the eighth round clash be postponed or the AIFF release the players for a day.
