Kolkata: The AIFF today imposed Rs 80,000 fine on Mohammedan Sporting and Rs 10,000 on their coach Abdul Bola Mashood Aziz for protesting against the referee`s decision in their 2-3 loss to Bengaluru FC in a Round 13 I-League fixture.
Alarmed by the crowd violence during the match yesterday, the club has also been show caused as such incidents are happening far too often, I-League CEO Sunando Dhar said today. In another decision, the AIFF has also fined Bengaluru FC coach Ashley Westwood of Rs 20,000 for getting into the field at the half-time. "We have sent them a scanned copy of the letter and have asked them to reply to the show cause," Dhar told PTI. Mohammedan Sporting football secretary Iqbal Ahmed however put across the blame on the AIFF. "We`re denied a penalty in the match against Dempo as well. It`s unfair. We have live footage, we`ll take up the issue," Ahmed told PTI. Md Sp were peeved with referee Ratheesh Kumar who turned down three penalty claims by the black-and-white brigade as coach aired his displeasure at the quality of supervision after the match. Furious club supporters too vented their ire by pelting bricks, breaking window panes and hurled chairs after their loss to BFC. The target was clearly the referee and India captain Sunil Chhetri, who netted a brace in their thrilling win. "Very very disappointed by few fans throwing stones at the ground. You can be passionate, u can curse and abuse but throwing stones is dangerous... Nabi, Collin, me or rino? anyone could have got seriously injured. It`s a (sic) humble request guys please be sensible," Chhetri has posted on his Twitter handle.
