Kolkata: Striker Edeh Chidi struck twice as Mohun Bagan thrashed Mohammedan Sporting 3-0 and keep their hopes alive in the Calcutta Football League premier division match here on Thursday.
After a barren first-half, Mohun Bagan scored three goals in the last 24 minutes of the match to grab full points, at the Salt Lake Stadium.
Mohun Bagan now have 28 points from eleven matches. But the 29-time champions are still five points behind East Bengal, who are at the top of the table with 33 points from eleven matches.
Mohammedan Sporting remained on 19 points from nine games.
Chidi struck home in the 69th and 93rd minute, while Muritala Ali socred once, in the 84th minute.
Mohammedan Sporting too had their chances, and came close to scoring on three occasions, but lack of firepower upfront cost them dear.
In the absence of Jose Barreto, Bagan looked disjointed in the first half, but the change of ends saw a change in their fortunes.
