Mumbai FC seek a change in fortunes against Mohun Bagan
Pune: Mumbai FC will look to get back to winning ways when they host Mohun Bagan in an I-league Round-7 clash at the Balewadi Sports Complex here on Saturday.
Having struck a purple patch in their campaign, Mumbai FC (7th, 6 points) faces a Bagan side that sits just two places below them in the standings, with only one point separating them.
Keeping their back-to-back setbacks aside, the hosts hope to secure their first home win of the season as Coach Khalid Jamil explains, "We certainly looking at plugging the losses and are working on it."
The visitors come into the game high on confidence after logging their first win of the season defeating high-flying Salgaocar FC 2-1 at home and will be a stronger unit.
Mumbai FC, however, will be hoping to make most of the home conditions and will hope to exploit the fact that Bagan`s previous visit to Balewadi earlier this month resulted in a 0-2 defeat to Pune FC.
Jamil was positive ahead of their clash against Bagan and expects more from him players.
"Yes we`ve had two consecutive losses and need to check that. We will be cautious as (Mohun) Bagan are a strong side. Likewise, we are hoping to rectify the mistakes committed in the last two matches particularly in second half," Jamil said.
The hosts will be missing services of talismanic defender Haroon Amiri. The Afghan-international was sent-off late in the previous match against Shillong Lajong after coming on as a second half substitute and serves a one game suspension.
Right-back Valeriano Rebello will miss his second match in a row as he is still nursing an ankle injury he picked up in a prematch practice session during the last round.
In their absence, youngster Ritesh Perambra will continue to partner Anwar Ali in the defence. The young Mumbai-lad will be high on confidence after getting on the scoresheet against Lajong.
In other team news, defender Nihal Chandran has been drafted into the 18-man squad in place of Amiri while Subhas Chakraborty has recovered fully from his injury and is available for selection. The winger came on as a late substitute in the previous match and might play a bigger role on Saturday.
In eleven encounters in all competitions so far, Mumbai FC have three wins compared to Bagan`s five. This is one record the hosts would like to set straight.
