London: Newcastle United were handed an all-Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup quarter-finals after dumping holders Manchester City out of the competition on Wednesday.
Goals from Rolando Aarons and Moussa Sissoko gave Newcastle a 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium and the subsequent last-eight draw saw Alan Pardew`s side dealt a trip to White Hart Lane, where they won 2-1 on Sunday.
"Obviously we`ve just been there and they`ll be fired up for us coming back after getting a win there," Pardew told Sky Sports. "But if we`re going to win this competition, we`re going to have to win it the hard way."
Chelsea and Liverpool both landed away games against Championship opposition, with the former set to visit Derby County and the latter handed a trip to Bournemouth.
Southampton, who won 3-2 at Stoke City on Wednesday, will visit third-tier Sheffield United, who are the lowest-ranked team left in the competition.
English League Cup quarter-final draw (games to be played the week commencing December 15):
