Parma in new hands, says owner Tommaso Ghirardi
Parma owner and president Tommaso Ghirardi has confirmed the sale of the Serie A club after reported new owner Pietro Doca played down reports he would soon take charge.
Ghirardi had announced on Tuesday that Doca would become the club`s new president after completing an imminent takeover, although doubts were raised by Doca earlier on Wednesday when he claimed "a final agreement had yet to be reached".
Ghirardi, however, issued a statement on the club`s website late on Wednesday which said: "Tommaso Ghirardi, on behalf of himself and the shareholders of Sport Events, having read the statements of Mr Doca, confirm the finalisation of the agreement concerning the sale of the club`s shares."
Parma have been debt-ridden since last season and recently the club were docked a point by Serie A officials as punishment for failing to pay their players.
