London: Table tennis was a key to Manchester United`s evergreen star Ryan Giggs` evolution in his amazing 40th year, according to club`s former strength and conditioning coach, Mick Clegg.
Clegg, who worked with Giggs for more than 11 years, said he remembers a turning point in his remarkable career i.e. game of table tennis. Clegg said Giggs regenerates his youth all the time by being -open-minded, adding when he worked with him he always let him show him things he thought might help him, and he would consider anything. Clegg added everyone knows Giggs does yoga and he did boxing and weight lifting and has tried all sorts, adding he gave trampolining a go when he was aged 34 or 35. Clegg said, “But, one example still sticks with him, adding a few years ago, Giggs wasn`t happy with his crossing and he wanted to perfect it, but didn`t know why he couldn`t.” Clegg added they spent about a month playing left-handed darts and table tennis, and he was beating him with his left hand in about a minute, adding from there they moved into the sports hall at Carrington to practice his crossing. The former coach further said Giggs would run along and chip the ball in at a gym ball, which he was throwing up in the air, adding by the end he was hitting the gym ball nine times out of ten. It adds up to a bizarre mix of sports and routines aimed at continuing a sparkling career, which has seen Giggs collect 33 major trophies with another Premier League and FA Cup Double on his radar, the paper concluded.
