Kolkata: Prayag United trounced Air India 3-0 in a crucial eighth round match here on Sunday to move up to the joint second position in the I-League.
For Prayag, while Yusif Yakubu fired the salvo in the 55th minute, Tulunga pumped in the second 15 minutes later.
The third and final goal for Prayag came from Denson Devadasa in the fag end of match.
With this win Prayag United, the only Kolkata team remaining undefeated in the league, jointly share the second spot along with Mohun Bagan with 16 points.
After a barren first half, Sanjay Sen`s boys regrouped with new vigour and began forays into the rival citadel and pumped in three goals in the final 35 minutes.
In a counter-attack, former Salgaocar striker Yakubu shot home after dribbling past a defender following one defence-splitting pass of Denson Devadasa (1-0).
Buoyed with the lead, Prayag kept up their pressure with striker Joshimar and medio Denson Devdas combing well.
The Kolkata outfit bolstered their margin when after a one-two between Devdas and Joshimar, the later passed the ball to an unguarded Tulunga who made no mistake to neatly place the ball inside the Air India goal and make the scoreline 2-0.
Denson dragged the last nail on Air India`s coffin after a combined move as he shot home one minute before the final whistle.
With Sunday’s defeat Air India remained on 10 points.
