River Plate won the Argentine super-derby Thursday by edging arch rivals Boca Juniors 1-0 to reach the final of the Copa Sudamericana, where they will take on Colombian side Atletico Nacional.

Buenos Aires: River Plate won the Argentine super-derby Thursday by edging arch rivals Boca Juniors 1-0 to reach the final of the Copa Sudamericana, where they will take on Colombian side Atletico Nacional.

The Medellin based club beat Brazil`s Sao Paulo a day earlier winning a penalty shoot-out 4-1 after their semi-final had ended 1-1 on aggregate.

Neither of the finalists has ever clinched the trophy, considered to be South America`s second most prestigious after the Copa Libertadores.

River Plate, coached by former Monaco playmaker Marcelo Gallardo, saved a penalty at their packed Monumental stadium before clinching the winner with a 16th minute strike from Leonardo Pisculichi. 

As the first leg of the semi-final had ended 0-0 at Boca`s Bonbonera stadium, the single goal margin was enough to see River Plate through

Atletico Nacional host the first-leg of the final on December 3rd in Medellin with the return-leg in Buenos Aires on December 12th.
