Madrid: Following a summer of inactivity on the transfer market as a result of their current financial difficulties, it seems Roma are plotting a shock swoop for Real Madrid’s Arjen Robben.According to Corriere dello Sport, as the Giallorossi look to push forward with negotiations for former Inter forward Julio Cruz, the Trigoria outfit are putting out feelers to study the likelihood of a possible loan agreement for Real’s unwanted Dutchman.
With such a deal unexpected to take place until the very last days of the transfer window, it is believed Roma are standing in line to lighten Los Blancos’ extra large squad, in case the Spaniards struggle to agree sales for a number of their players. The major stumbling block for an eventual loan deal is Robben’s massive €5 million-a-year salary. Also, given Roma’s lack of Champions League football this season, it remains to be seen whether the former Chelsea man would accept a move in the year leading up to the 2010 World Cup. With a number of clubs reportedly ready to offer hard cash for the Dutchman, it could prove a dream to far for the Giallorossi, should Robben manage to find a suitor before the end of August. Goal.com
