Rooney helps Man U thrash Seattle Sounder

Seattle: Wayne Rooney has made a flying start to the new season by scoring his second half hat-trick as Manchester United cruised to a 7-0 victory against Seattle Sounders in the second game of the club’s summer tour of the United States.

Rooney, who missed United’s pre-season tour of the States last summer due to an extended break in the aftermath of England’s dismal tournament in South Africa, appeared lean, sharp and clinical as he led Sir Alex Ferguson’s team to an emphatic victory, a daily reports.

Rio Ferdinand provided the only negative for United by limping off with an injury to his right ankle following a 90th minute challenge by O’Brian White, but the England defender appeared untroubled at the end of the game.

Seattle; last year’s Western Conference champions and currently second to David Beckham’s LA Galaxy this season, were expected to give United a sterner test than Steve Nicol’s Revolution managed in Boston.
