London:: Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has said he would like to better club legends George Best and Dennis Viollet’s tally of 179 before the end of the season.
Rooney took his tally to 178 after scoring a brace during their 4-0 thumping of Aston Villa on Sunday at Old Trafford.
“Of course it would be great to surpass him. It will be a fine achievement that I’ll be proud of. I can’t really look at that,” The Sun quoted Rooney, as saying.
“If it happens then great. I just have to keep myself focused on my game,” he added.
Two more goals for Rooney would mean only Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and Jack Rowley have scored more goals for United than him.
But he has another milestone in his sights, as the England international has 31 goals for the season, which is just three behind his best ever campaign in 2009-10.
“I hope I can beat my best tally. It is the points that are important but if I can score goals to get those points then I’ll be delighted,” he said.
