London: A 20-year-old footballer of Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, Gasan Magomedov, has been shot dead near his home in the country's North Caucasus.
Magomedov was driving Saturday when his car was hit with machine-gun fire and he died from his wounds while being transported to hospital, his club said Sunday, bbc.com reports.
No arrests have been made for the shooting so far, the club added.
Anzhi sent "deepest condolences" to the family of the footballer, a midfielder in the club's youth and reserve teams.
"We grieve together with everyone who was dear to Gasan. I hope the police quickly find the killers and they suffer just punishment," Sergey Korablev, the club's chief executive was quoted as saying by bbc.com Sunday.
