Margao: Defending champions Salgaocar maintained its winning run by scoring a resounding 4-0 win over bottom placed HAL, Bangalore in the round 15th I-League clash at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, on Wednesday.
Goals from Francis Fernandes (12th), Ryuji Sueoka (54th), substitutes Gilbert Oliveira (71st) and Randeep Singh (85th) took Salgaocar`s tally to 25 points from 15 matches.
The visitors remained at the bottom with three points from as many matches.
Salgaocar went into an attacking mode from the beginning with their strikers and midfielders playing in unison. Having forced the visitors on the back foot, the hosts had the first chance to surge ahead in the 4th minute when a move from the right saw Bevan D`Mello relay the ball to Nicolao Colaco, whose sent a cross into the box for Ryuji Sueoka.
However, the Japanese mid-fielder`s header missed the target narrowly.
Thereafter, Salgaocar forced three successive flag kicks which went in vain.
However, they were successful in taking the lead in the 12th minute. A move on the left saw Tomkba Singh send a goalmouth cross, which Francis Fernandes headed in.
Thereafter, Salgaocar held ball possession but found stiff resistance from the rival defense, that did well to cut off the moves of the hosts.
The visitors who put up a decent fight in the first half stitched a couple of good moves and had a good chance to equalise, but a shot at the goal by Vinod Kumar was foiled in nick of time by Salgaocar custodian Vinay Singh.
After the change of ends, Salgaocar looked more in command as they piled on the pressure on the visitors and increased their lead in the 54th minute when Ryuji Sueoka met Nicolao Colaco`s cross with a diving header that found the net.
Substitute Gilbert Oliveira then killed the match when he beat HAL rival keeper P Pramod with an angular drive off a long lob from Rocus Lamare.
Randeep Singh, who came in place of Francis Fernandes towards the last quarter of the match, scored with his first touch when he sent a rasping drive that hit the bar before finding the net off Gilbert Oliveira`s back pass to complete the rout.
Earlier in the 78th minute, HAL defender Liliyan Kenneth got the marching orders from referee MB Santosh after he received his second yellow card for a foul on Beevan D`Mello.
Referee Santosh Kumar showed yellow card to HAL`s Chandan Deep Singh, Biju Kumar.
