Margao: Salgaocar would look to get back their winning ways when they lock horns against Pune FC in the sixth round of the I-League at Nehru stadium here from Wednesday.
Salgaocar`s defeat against table topper East Bengal in their last match had pushed them to second place with 12 points.
Salgaocar coach Karim Bencherifa though was pleased with his team performance against East Bengal.
"Ours is a young side, considering the strength of East Bengal our boys gave a good fight only to loose by a solitary goal. Gilbert Oliveira and Anthony Barbosa have played well on the flanks and coordinated well with old war horse Yusif Yakubu and playmaker Ryuji Sueoka.
"Pune FC has not performed to their expectation and we have a good chance of snatching full points. We will try to score an early goal and put pressure on our opponent by playing attacking game," said Bencharifa.Pune FC continued their poor run and were lucky to hold ONGC to a 1-1 draw through former Salgaocar striker Mandjou Keita late goal. It`s their fourth draw in five matches and are placed ninth with four points.
Pune had the best defensive record last season but in the absence of India`s number one Subrata Paul, they have already conceded six.
Pune will be determined to overcome their problems and get back to their very best. Their strike force is crippled in the absence of injured Edmar Figueira and will be without Lester Fernandes due to double booking. Pune coach Derick Pereira is optimistic that his boys will do well tomorrow and score their first win.
"Salgaocar is a good side and at present doing well. We need to put up a collective performance to win tomorrow," he said.
