Section of AIFF tech committee unhappy with Asian Cup show

New Delhi: At least two members of the All
India Football Federation Technical Committee expressed
disappointment at the performance of the national team at the
Asian Cup in Doha last month, at a meeting held here on Wednesday.

The six-member technical committee, under the
chairmanship of former AIFF vice-president C R Viswanathan,
met here to review the performance of the senior national team
in the Asian Cup as well as progress made in the last five

The other members of the committee are Inder Singh, Mohd.
Habib, Krisnaji Rao (vice-chairman), Pradeep Chowdhury,
Brahmanand Shankwalker.

AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das was present as
ex-officio member but Habib couldn`t make it to the meeting as
he is out of country on personal work.

It is learnt that at least two members have expressed the
view that despite being given the best facilities including
long foreign tours, the national team failed to perform to
its best level.

Another member is learnt to have said that coach Bob
Houghton should have sent back the injured players and
replaced by others.

The committee will submit a report to the AIFF Executive
Committee which is expected to meet later this month or early
next month.

The committee has also recommended that a detailed report
from Houghton be sought regarding the performance of the
Indian team in the Asian Cup.

None of the members were willing to speak on record about
the views they expressed in the meeting.

"We have been requested not to speak to the media
individually and I have given the commitment not to do it. We
have given our frank views about the performance of national
team in the Asian Cup and what were the loopholes in the
preparations," one of the members said.

"The AIFF will cull the views expressed by the members
and then make it public if it wants to," he said.
